Darrill Schoonover is out of Shark Fights 21 main event against former WWE Bobby Lashley

Shark Fights- Boobby Lashley vs Darrill Schoonover "Schoonover Out!

According to MMA Junkie Darrill Schoonover is out of Shark Fights 21 main event! Who’s gonna rep Texas and fill this main event slot??

Darrill Schoonover out at Shark Fights 21, Bobby Lashley awaits new opponent
A shoulder injury has forced Shark Fights heavyweight champ Darrill Schoonover (11-5) to withdraw from a fight with Bobby Lashley (6-1) in the headliner of Shark Fights 21.

Sources close to the event today broke the news to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) and said the search for a replacement is underway. Additionally, a source said the headliner is expected to remain a title fight, though details on the bout’s status could not be confirmed.

Shark Fights 21 takes place Nov. 11 at Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas. The event airs via delay on FUEL TV on Dec. 23.

Lashley, who recently signed a three-fight deal with Shark Fights, hasn’t fought since a decision victory over John Ott at Titan Fighting Championships 17 in March. The victory followed his first and only career loss: a second-round TKO (via retirement) to Chad Griggs at “Strikeforce: Houston.”

Schoonover, who’s perhaps best known as a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 10,” recently snapped a five-fight losing skid with a first-round TKO victory over Adam Padilla at a regional show in Texas. All 11 of wins have come via stoppage (six via knockout and five via submission).

A replacement is expected to be announced shortly. Check back with MMAjunkie.com for updates as they become available.

SHARK FIGHTS 21: Ultimate Fighter Standout Darrill Schoonover Faces Former WWE Bobby Lashley

PRESS RELEASE: October 12, 2011

shark fights 21Amarillo, TX – Shark Fight Promotions announced two title fights for the main and co-main events at Shark Fights 21 on November 11 in Lubbock, Texas. WWE superstar Bobby Lashley (6-1) returns to action to fight for the Shark Fights Heavyweight title against Ultimate Fighter standout Darrill Schoonover (11-5). The co-main event features submission machine Tony Bonello (16-1-1) against UFC veteran David Roberts (5-8) for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Bonello has won 14 of his 16 victories by way of submission. Shark Fights executive Wes Nolen states, “This is going to be a huge night of fights. We wanted to end the year strong with two championship fights in one night. Shark Fights is excited to be going back to Lubbock, Texas. The fans in Lubbock have always been supportive of Shark Fights and we want to put on the biggest show possible for them.”

There have only been a handful of fighters that have garnered more publicity and higher expectations entering MMA than Bobby Lashley. With a chiseled 6’3 – 265lb physique and two national wrestling titles, Lashley was touted as being the most dominate heavyweight to step into the cage since Brock Lesnar (5-2). Lashley currently trains in Irvine, California with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett (30-5). “I’m a new fighter now and I want to show people something different than what they expect of me,” Lashley said. “I’m not going to just take my opponents down and ground and pound them. I’m going for the submission or maybe I will stand up and knock them out.” Lashley is set to debut a whole new set of skills as he renews his run at a title against current Shark Fights Heavyweight Champion Darrill Schoonover. Schoonover was 10-0 at the time of winning the Shark Fights title and wants to prove that Lashley is all hype. Both Lashley and Schoonover are coming off big victories and are ready to take the next step in becoming the Shark Fights Heavyweight Champion.
