[Press Release] Rocktagon MMA Adds Lone Star State to West Coast Line-up

Rocktagon-28-El-Paso-EventPRESS RELEASE: Las Vegas, NV (July 24, 2013) – The MMA boom is underway in Texas as Rocktagon MMA Worldwide brings premium fight events to the Lone Star State. Rocktagon MMA is set to make its debut in Texas on Friday, July 26 with an ALL-Pro MMA card stacked with elite talent. The event, ‘Rocktagon 28 Journey of Champions –El Paso’ will take place at Buchanan’s Event Center in El Paso, Texas.

Rocktagon MMA has held a total of 27 events to date in cities on both coasts, primarily in Ohio and California. They are very excited to add Texas to the line-up and plan to make a positive impact when it comes to live MMA events in the state. The popular promotion hopes to reignite the MMA scene in the El Paso area by delivering consistent, high-quality MMA events that feature elite pro fighters from all over the globe.

According to James Jeda, CEO of Rocktagon MMA Worldwide, “We are very excited to bring premium MMA events to the great state of Texas. Between Ohio, California and Texas, Rocktagon will continue to infuse cities from coast to coast with top-level professional MMA events.”

‘Rocktagon 28 Journey of Champions –El Paso’ will feature a stacked ALL – Pro MMA fight card headlined by Billy “The Puerto Rican Assassin” Colon and Martin Sano Jr. The clichéd mantra, “don’t blink,” is certainly relevant considering both fighters have a 100-percent finish rate.

Colon, a submission specialist and seasoned MMA veteran, has competed all over the United States. Colon feels his significant experience in the cage will rein superior against his opponent in the Rocktagon arena. He plans to prove it by finishing Sano impressively and early on, but knows it will not be an easy feat.

At just 22-years-old, Sano exudes the kind of confidence one expects in a future champion. He is a highly touted prospect with an unblemished record, yet this will be his first fight on the big stage against a savvy veteran like Colon. It will also be his first venture from welterweight to middleweight.

Will Sano find success in the middleweight division or suffer his first defeat? Fans will find out on Friday night when both fighters lay it all on the line in the Rocktagon cage. It is a fight that will keep fans on the edge of their seat from the moment the cage door closes and the co-main event is expected to be just as exciting!

In the co-main event heavy-handed slugger Patrick “Skar” Dixon will face Fort Bliss Combatives team member Anthony Stevens. While some fighters rely on point scoring, Dixon tends to take the road less traveled, which typically consists of throwing haymakers and leaving opponents curled up in the fetal position.

Stevens, on the other hand, is a more technical fighter and consistently pushes forward. He has a smooth boxing style and is known for delivering exciting performances with wild, impressive exchanges. The contrasting styles of these dynamic fighters make for a very compelling match-up!

The Rocktagon 28 card is jam-packed with well-matched professional bouts and high-octane fights that fans want to see! The full fight card is listed below.

PRESS RELEASE: Brother vs. Brother at ‘Evolution 2’

Over the years MMA has seen its fair share of conflict between brothers, such as the highly publicized feud between MMA legends (and adopted siblings) Ken and Frank Shamrock. The toxic family feuds, fueled by years of sibling rivalry, would undoubtedly produce memorable battles in cage, yet a true brother vs. brother MMA bout has yet to come to fruition, that is, until now. New Mexico based Evolution Combat Sports Championship will soon make their mark, by becoming the first fight promotion to officially deliver a bonafide brother vs. brother bout in the professional MMA arena.

On Saturday, December 10, 2011 Jeremiah Paco ‘The Punisher’ Castillo and his brother Angel Castillo are slated to headline ‘Evolution 2.’ The event marks the highly anticipated return of‘Evolution’, the show that launched the now popular regional MMA promotion. The event will take place at the Curry County Event Center in Clovis, New Mexico. The promotion is thrilled to mark the return of ‘Evolution’ by featuring the first ever brother vs. brother headliner.

According to Martin Singleterry, founder of Evolution Combat Sports Championship, “We are thrilled to bring back our high profile ‘Evolution’ shows.  The Saturday night shows are a perfect addition to our ‘Friday Night Fight’ series. We have a stellar event planned for December. Fans are in for a real treat! Not only is the card stacked with New Mexico’s top contenders, fans will get to witness the first ever brother vs. brother pro MMA battle!”

Singleterry went on to say, “Although the Castillo brothers may not be house hold names on a national level, they are well-known and respected within the regional fight scene …and when it comes to their high octane personal vendetta …well, heh… it’s no secret. I thought, what better way for these two warriors to settle the score than in their element, in the cage, in front of their fans. I approached the Castillo brothers about the match-up and the rest is history.”

On December 10, the Castillo brothers will go head-to-head in a 130-pound catch weight bout, which according to many, has fight-of-the-night implications. In addition to the highly anticipated brother vs. brother headliner, ‘Evolution 2’ will also feature a co-main event bout between two of New Mexico’s best female fighters.  Knockout artist Heather “Hurricane” Clark drops down to the 115lb division to take #10 ranked Chelsea “Italian Princess” Colarelli, in a fight that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The full fight card will be announced soon. Fight fans will not want to miss this event!

‘Evolution 2’ will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Curry County Events Center in Clovis, New Mexico. Doors open at 5:00pm CT. Fights start at 6:00pm CT. Tickets are on sale now! Prices range from $12.00 for grandstand seating to $35.00 for VIP. To purchase event tickets, please log on to www.evolutioncombatsports.com . Tickets can also be purchased at the venue the night of the event.

The main event between 30-year-old Alistair Overeem (fighting out of Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and the 33-year-old Fabricio Werdum (fighting out of Porto Alegre, Brazil) pits the two superstars against one another nearly five years after Werdum submitted Overeem on a PRIDE® Fighting Championship card at Osaka Dome in Osaka, Japan on May 5, 2006.

Since their initial encounter, the 6-foot-5, 260 pound Overeem has become the first fighter in history to simultaneously hold both a major mixed martial arts (STRIKEFORCE) title and a K-1 Heavyweight Grand Prix championship. Meanwhile, Werdum has wreaked havoc on the heavyweight division, including his submission over Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko in June, which was considered 2010 Upset of the Year.

Josh Barnett (fighting out of Seattle, Wash.) is a former UFC heavyweight champion who owns victories over the likes of Randy Couture, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Pedro Rizzo and Gilbert Yvel. The 33-year-old heads to Dallas with hopes of derailing his opponent and advancing in the Grand Prix. To do so, he must defeat the heavy-handed Brett Rogers (fighting out of St. Paul, Minn). The 6-foot-5 powerhouse reeled off 10 straight wins to start his professional career and holds knockout victories over the likes of former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski and PRIDE vet James Thompson.

A former Division I All-American at Oklahoma State University Daniel Cormier (fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) is unbeaten in seven fights. Training alongside the likes of UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and welterweight stars Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck, Cormier’s blend of wrestling and power could pose problems for his opponent in Texas. With an unblemished record in 11 professional bouts, Shane Del Rosario (fighting out of Irvine, Calif.) remains unfazed by the hype surrounding his opponent. Coming off an impressive submission win over Lavar Johnson in February, the 27-year-old Del Rosario has finished every fight and expects nothing less when he meets Cormier on June 18.

A seasoned veteran riding a three-fight winning streak, Valentijn Overeem (fighting out of Amsterdam, The Netherlands) believes a win on June 18 could propel him into contention in the STRIKEFORCE heavyweight division. Thus, expect fireworks when he meets free-swinging Chad Griggs (fighting out of Tucson, Ariz.), who has won five straight, including a stoppage of Bobby Lashley.

This loaded event also marks the return of former STRIKEFORCE title contender Gina Carano (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.), who will take on an opponent to be announced in the weeks to come. The fierce striker, who turns 29 this Saturday, will train for this fight under the tutelage of renowned coach Greg Jackson, who has trained elite athletes such as UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. A rising star in the acting world, Carano is eager to get back to her first love and impress in her first bout since Aug. 2009.
