Quote highlights from today’s press conference:
“I was here in the U.S. in February when my brother fought and it felt very much like home, so I am pretty relaxed. I know there is a lot of attention from all over the world for this fight. I am very prepared and very eager to show everyone what I can do.”
“I fought Overeem four years ago. It’s a different time now. I have more experience and Overeem does too. Overeem has shown he is the best, he beat everyone in K-1, but I am the best too.”
“Josh is another big man that is going to want to take me down to the ground and force me to display some ground work. I’ve been doing MMA for six years. I need to have top to bottom skills. If push comes to shove and he takes me down, I need to get myself back up and finish it standing.”
“I don’t want to look at Brett’s punching power. I don’t want to know how hard he hits at all. I am hoping to not get hit as much as possible.”
“Everybody likes to see a tournament unfold. Almost all of our major sporting events are determined by a tournament. Tournaments are how the Olympics sort out their sports as well. It’s exciting. They put out odds and favorites of who is going to make it through, but until they get out there and fight, you just don’t know. This tournament gives the opportunity to take collectively the best heavyweights in the world and see how they come out.
“Masvidal is a very exciting fighter. He picks his shots and he’s not a person that you can just run in at. You need to pick your shots. He is well rounded everywhere. Just because someone boxes the full fight doesn’t mean he isn’t well rounded. I have been training for everything and I am ready for everything.”
“I hope a win over KJ gets me a title shot, but if I have to go out there and fight ten more times then I’ll do that. In this fight I’m looking to turn it up a bit more and make the fans happy.
It’s going to be a good fight.”
