Chad “Robo” Robichaux making his Bellator debut vs Zach Makovsky April 16

PRESS RELEASE: April 4, 2011 Houston, TX (via Sherdog)

Known to his students as “Professor Robo,” Chad Robichaux is not only one of the best up-and-coming mixed martial arts fighters in the world, but he is also becoming one of its most respected coaches as well. Robichaux or “Robo”, a Carlos Gracie Jr. 1st Degree Black Belt, owns Gracie Barra North Houston Schools in Texas, 3 locations with nearly 1,000 students.

As a professional mixed martial artist, Robo is quickly gaining notoriety for himself and looks to gain even more when he makes his debut in Bellator Fighting Championships on April 16 to face current bantamweight champion Zach Makovsky in a “super fight.” Robo has already defeated the likes of Lewis McKenzie, which earned him the Legacy FC Bantamweight Championship, and Humberto Deleon, a Strikeforce victory that was his eleventh in a row and first victory via decision after ten consecutive submissions. On top of his new title, Robichaux is 11-0 with ten of his victories coming by submission, including eight stoppages in the first round.

Robo trains with some of the best that the sport has to offer at Gracie Barra, including WEC/Dream veteran Todd Moore, legendary Jiu-Jitsu Coaches Vinicius “Draculino” Magalhaes and Octavio “Ratinho” Couto, Jordanian Muay Thai National Team Coach Ali Alhalabi, NCAA Wrestler Jody Trantham, and 33-1 pro boxer Lewis Wood.

Combining incredible strength that often leads to impressive slams and elite grappling ability, Robo has quietly become one of the best prospects in the sport while remaining unbeaten in his career that has spanned 11 years. Now, however, he feels like it is his time to show the world the elite fighter that he is, and he gets his shot on April 16 when he takes on Makovsky in the “super fight.”

“Zach is a great fighter,” Robichaux said. “He has a simple yet effective game. He’s consistently good at many things, but I am to… like I’m consistently good at winning.”

Regarding Zach’s experience in higher level fights and having fought higher caliber opponents, Robichaux said, “Yes, Zach has fought higher level talent than me. This is a step up for me, he’s the champ. After four years in Afghanistan I had to work my way back in the scene. However, when we step in that ring it is me and Zach, not Zach and his resume. I’m ready and I hope he is, because he is where I want to be, where I worked my whole life to be, and I will take his place on April 16th. “

As the No. 1 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the Houston area, Robichaux feels he is ready to show the entire country what an amazing fighter and human being he is.

In addition to being an elite fighter, Robo also served the United States as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, Special Operations Force Reconnaissance Marine, and a Federal Agent. He serves his local area as a volunteer wrestling coach, and received the Medal of Valor. Robo also holds an MBA from New York Tech, and is a husband and father of three.

In addition, Robo has teamed up with Soldiers Angel’s and Ranger Up in support of Disabled Veterans’ “American Heroes” coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan to provide a viewing party for his Bellator 41 fight and the opportunity to meet and train with him in the future.

“Stylistically this is a perfect match-up for anyone wanting to see an action packed MMA bout. Zach and I are both highly skilled and extremely athletic competitors; we are both strategy gamers and composed under pressure, but we have the ability to push each other. I see it being nearly impossible for this not to be an exciting bout. It will either end dynamically or will be three rounds of non-stop action, but if you ask my prediction… I intend to finish him, there is no strategy in my game book for a decision, I did it once and have slept right since. I will push to end this fight”

Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal vs. Paul Daley at Shark Fights 13

PRESS RELEASE: August 10, 2010 – Amarillo, TX

It’s official: Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal vs. Paul “Semtex” Daley at Shark Fights 13 – Live on Pay-Per-View.

Shark Fight Promotions announced that a worthy opponent for UFC veteran Paul “Semtex” Daley has been signed. The organization announced today that the top welterweight contender will step into the cage with American Top Team fighter, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal. This will be Daley’s first bout in the U.S. following his highly publicized departure from the UFC.

According to Brent Medley, president of Shark Fight Promotions, “Choosing the right opponent to face a high-level contender like Daley was not easy. Numerous A-list fighters were under consideration. When we heard that Jorge Masvidal wanted to return to the welterweight division after several grueling weight cuts from 185lbs to 155lbs, he became our clear choice. We immediately approached Masvidal about the bout and he did not hesitate to step up to the challenge.”

Medley went on to say, “We feel that this is a very compelling match up. Daley and Masvidal are both highly skilled marquee fighters, with fight styles that match up well. Masvidal, who has been a dominating force in the lightweight division, is determined to prove that he’s an even bigger threat as a welterweight. Defeating Paul Daley would send that message loud and clear, but it won’t be easy. This is going to be a very exciting fight!”

Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (20-5) is a former AFC Welterweight Champion and Bellator Fighting Championships veteran. He holds notable wins over UFC standout Joe Lauzon, former IFL Lightweight Champion Ryan Schultz, UFC and Pride veteran Yves Edwards, former Sengoku Lightweight Champion Satoru Kitaoka, and most recently Naoyuki Kotani. A notable win over a top contender such as Paul Daley will likely put Masvidal on the radar of UFC executives.

The impressive Shark Fights 13 main event roster includes Keith Jardine vs. Trevor Prangley, Rameau Sokoudjou vs. Houston Alexander, Paul Daley vs. Jorge Masvidal, Drew McFedries vs. Joey Villasenor, and a fifth fight yet to be announced. To learn more about Shark Fight Promotions, please visit

Bellator XX coming to San Antonio Texas!!!

San Antonio hosts Bellator XX on Thursday, May 27th, at the Majestic Theater  in the heart of downtown.  The Alamo City has played host to an increasing number of top-level MMA events in the last 2 years, and this card will be no exception.

Main Event

The main event features middleweights Bryan “The Beast” Baker and Eric Schambari, both of which have previously fought for the WEC several times, before it was absorbed by Zuffa.  Expect a battle of epic proportions, because each has a 12-1 record and a long history of fighting at the highest levels.

In addition, it should prove to be an interesting match-up because it seems to be an example of a grappler/striker scenario, but one that will be decided on the ground.  Out of Schambari’s 12 professional victories, 7 of them came by way of submission.  Baker, on the other hand, has 6 TKOs. For anyone who is an avid fan of the ground game, this fight will be a must-see, because it has a good chance of becoming a technical interplay between jiu-jitsu and ground ‘n’ pound. will be there interviewing fighters and mingling with the fans as well!

UPDATE from sPidA: and we will have 3 locals making the card… Ralph Kelley (EliteXC) will be going into battle with (UFC) Eddie Sanchez. This one should be a battle of will. Heavy strikers on this one. We also have (Army Combatives/Salazar BTT member) Andrew Chappelle going into battle against Ryan Larson. Two Texas standouts, both hungry for a victory. And last but not least, Aaron Rosa (Strikeforce) will be battling Robert Villegas (HDNET Fights). This in my opinion should have happened years ago. Two of Texas top 205’rs. Rosa a striker gone grappler and Villegas BJJ Blackbelt under Draculino with great striking skills. I have personally worked with both and I’m eager to see what they both bring into the Cage! People, you don’t want to miss this card! Definitely one for the records!!!
