Ran into TJ Walburgher @ Seguin MMA one Saturday afternoon while visiting King Webb,so I jumped on the opportunity to ask him a few questions: Here goes!
sPidA: First off, thank you for giving me a few minutes of your time bro, much appreciated.

TJ: Not a problem man, glad I could help.

sPidA: First off, what do you have going on in your fighting career, heard you had renewed your UFC contract?

TJ: I actually did, renewed another 4 fight contract, next fight is in Australian and Aaron Rosa is on that card aswell.

sPidA: Good deal, spoketo Aaron the other day and that’s great that we will have 2 fighters on that card to represent our great State of Texas, will this be your first time visiting Australia?

T.J: It is,it’s actually the longest flight ever to,goingto be a long boring flight (laughter by both)

sPidA: Ouch! 16hrs? That is insane…How’s your training thus far? Are you training to avoid jet lag,I mean are you on tune with the time in Australia?

TJ: My training is actually going very well,my coaches and team mates are really pushing me,as for training for the jet lag, it’;s goingto be a long flight, I figure I’ll just sleep and wake up to whatever time it is when we arrive.

sPidA: Sounds fair, you actually have a record in the UFC for most submissions attempted during a match, with that said,do yoo consider yourself a grappler first then a striker?

TJ: Not at all, I’m feel comfortable on the ground but I do enjoy striking,I just go with the flow but I do consider myself a freestyle fighter.

sPidA: Well said, thank you TJ for this opportunity, any last comments or people you’d like to give thanks to?

TJ: Thank you man and yes I’d like to thank the UFC for the opportunities, my coaches and training partners (Grappler’s Lair) and most importantly my wife Shayla and my family for their support!

(Card Subject to change)
Ciprian Hangan vs Jose Sanchez
Brad Cox vs Hayward Charles
Donnie Bell vs Keith Miner
Eli Tamez vs Nelson Salas
Burt McDonald vs Jonathan Wise
Aldo Davila vs Andrew Parker
Victor Reyna vs Andre Kavanaugh
Casey Hudson vs Klayton Mai
Aaron Culpepper vs Antuan Williams

185lbs Ciprian Hangan (2-0 DallasMMA300- 2011 XKO “Knockout of the Year” winner) vs Jay Jay Sanchez (2-0) This is a highly anticipated matchup between 2 of the fastest rising superstars in XKO! Ciprian Hangan has definitely made a HUGE impact in the 185 division with 2 devastating Knockouts (Steve Hess, Chris Collins) in his first 2 appearances in XKO! The man that plans on stopping Ciprian is Jay Jay Sanchez an undefeated fighter who is best known for the perfectly timed “Knee” to end the fight against top MMA fighter JJ Holmes! This is a fight you don’t want to miss! “I knock people out, that’s what I do” – Ciprian Hangan

155lbs Donnie Bell (3-1 Metroflex MMA) vs Keith Miner (4-2 Mohlers MMA) Donnie Bell makes his return to the XKO cage to face XKO newcomer Keith Miner. With a perfect record in XKO Bell is a crowd favorite! Bell is one of XKO’s featured fighters with a strong wrestling background and knockout power!

180lbs Brad Cox (2-0 Fitness Fight Factory) vs Hayward “The Hybrid” Charles (3-2 Ironside/pur-fit and Genesis) It’s hard to describe the excitement for this fight! Brad Cox is one of the most well known fighters in the area with a reputation for dominating fights! He steps into the cage against one of the top fighters in XKO – Hayward “The Hybrid” Charles! Hayward is coming off an impressive victory over XKO newcomer Andre Kavanaugh with a :43 sec triangle choke submission. Known for his Jiu Jitsu Hayward is arguably the best Jiu Jitsu specialist in the company! A great match-up that will bring fireworks! “I don’t care who you put in front of me, I’ll fight them because I want to be at the top” – Hayward Charles

170lbs Aaron Culpepper (1-0 The Gym Arlington, TX) vs Antuan Williams (0-2) Aaron Culpepper’s pro-debut at XKO 13 was what fight fans talked about for weeks after he got the victory and “Fight of the Night” honors! Aaron is a powerful striker, aggressive but yet calm in the cage! He takes on XKO newcomer Antwan Williams, a former training partner and current striking coach who knows the striking game and is not afraid to trade punches! You can expect this fight to be a striking battle with someone ending the fight with a KO or TKO!

170lbs Andrew Parker (1-0 Octagon MMA) vs Aldo Davila (pro-debut The Gym) Andrew Parker made his pro-debut at XKO and took “Fight of the Night” honors. Andrew is a well rounded fighter who can take the fight almost anywhere he wants. Parker will be taking on Aldo Devila an exciting fighter making his pro-debut! Also is coming off an impressive amateur career and looks to continue his success at the pro level! This has “Fight of the Night” written all over it!

135lbs Eli Tamez (3-0 Octagon MMA) vs Nelson Salas (2-0 Texas Fighting Syndicate) When XKO asked Eli and Nelson about this fight both fighters did not hesitate to sign the contract! This is not the first time the fighters have faced each other, both fighters crossed paths as amateurs with Eli getting the win by submission. Both Eli and Nelson are fast and explosive. This will be a fast paced fight for the fight fan and a good matchup that will not disappoint.

185lbs Victor Reyna (pro-debut The Gym) vs Andre Kavanaugh (2-2 Austin, TX) Andre Kavanaugh is known for is heavy hands and brawler type of style. With a split record Andre looks to get his first win in XKO. He will be taking on Victor Reyna a solid striker who can finish the fight at any given moment! Victor has only had 1 defeat as a amateur and believes he is ready for the pro level. We are excited to see new faces in XKO and see what happens in this fight!

150lbs Burt McDonald (1-2 Texas Fighting Syndicate) vs Johnathan Wise (1-2 Garland Police Boxing Gym) When it comes to Burt McDonald the first thing you think about is… “what a class act”. Burt is a “Fight of the Night” recipient and has faced 2 of the top 155ers in the XKO division (Chris Pecero and Donnie Bell). Training out of Texas Fighting Syndicate Burt is well known in the MMA community! With a boxing background Burt wants to keep his fights striking! At XKO 14 Burt will match up with the perfect opponent with an identical record and fighting style. Johnathan Wise makes his XKO Debut out of Garland Police Boxing Academy and looks to make a statement against the XKO veteran McDonald. I see this fight going 3 rounds and possibly “Fight of the Night”!

145lbs Casey Hudson (Pro-debut Fitness Fight Factory) vs Klayton Mai (1-0 Octagon MMA) Both fighters are new to XKO! This fight will come down to pure skill. Both fighters are aggressive and strong. Fighting out the two top schools in DFW both fighters will come prepared! Don’t blink during this fight because anything can happen!

Over the years MMA has seen its fair share of conflict between brothers, such as the highly publicized feud between MMA legends (and adopted siblings) Ken and Frank Shamrock. The toxic family feuds, fueled by years of sibling rivalry, would undoubtedly produce memorable battles in cage, yet a true brother vs. brother MMA bout has yet to come to fruition, that is, until now. New Mexico based Evolution Combat Sports Championship will soon make their mark, by becoming the first fight promotion to officially deliver a bonafide brother vs. brother bout in the professional MMA arena.

On Saturday, December 10, 2011 Jeremiah Paco ‘The Punisher’ Castillo and his brother Angel Castillo are slated to headline ‘Evolution 2.’ The event marks the highly anticipated return of‘Evolution’, the show that launched the now popular regional MMA promotion. The event will take place at the Curry County Event Center in Clovis, New Mexico. The promotion is thrilled to mark the return of ‘Evolution’ by featuring the first ever brother vs. brother headliner.

According to Martin Singleterry, founder of Evolution Combat Sports Championship, “We are thrilled to bring back our high profile ‘Evolution’ shows. The Saturday night shows are a perfect addition to our ‘Friday Night Fight’ series. We have a stellar event planned for December. Fans are in for a real treat! Not only is the card stacked with New Mexico’s top contenders, fans will get to witness the first ever brother vs. brother pro MMA battle!”

Singleterry went on to say, “Although the Castillo brothers may not be house hold names on a national level, they are well-known and respected within the regional fight scene …and when it comes to their high octane personal vendetta …well, heh… it’s no secret. I thought, what better way for these two warriors to settle the score than in their element, in the cage, in front of their fans. I approached the Castillo brothers about the match-up and the rest is history.”

On December 10, the Castillo brothers will go head-to-head in a 130-pound catch weight bout, which according to many, has fight-of-the-night implications. In addition to the highly anticipated brother vs. brother headliner, ‘Evolution 2’ will also feature a co-main event bout between two of New Mexico’s best female fighters. Knockout artist Heather “Hurricane” Clark drops down to the 115lb division to take #10 ranked Chelsea “Italian Princess” Colarelli, in a fight that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The full fight card will be announced soon. Fight fans will not want to miss this event!

‘Evolution 2’ will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Curry County Events Center in Clovis, New Mexico. Doors open at 5:00pm CT. Fights start at 6:00pm CT. Tickets are on sale now! Prices range from $12.00 for grandstand seating to $35.00 for VIP. To purchase event tickets, please log on to www.evolutioncombatsports.com . Tickets can also be purchased at the venue the night of the event.

Amarillo, TX – One day after confirming Mark Martinez as Bobby Lashley’s new opponent for Shark Fights 21, Shark Fight Promotions was informed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation that Mark Martinez’s blood work has expired and will be unable to compete. Karl Knothe (17-5) now steps in to fight Bobby Lashley (6-1) for the Shark Fights Heavyweight Title at Shark Fights 21 on November 11 in Lubbock, Texas. Knothe’s manager, Gavin Rydell said, “Karl has wanted to fight Bobby Lashley for a while. He’s had some offers before to fight Bobby, but it always fell apart. Karl is excited that not only does he get to fight Bobby Lashley, but it’s also for the Shark Fights Heavyweight Title.” Rydell continues, “Karl is in great shape and ready to fight. He’s been training hard for a boxing match this weekend, but jumped at the opportunity to fight for Shark Fights. He only took the boxing match to stay fresh because no one wanted to fight him in MMA. Karl is ready to bring the belt back to Minnesota.” Knothe has finished his last 12 opponents all within the 1st round.

Knothe was originally set to fight in Shark Fights 17 against Ricco Rodriquez, but because of a misunderstanding, couldn’t make the agreed upon catch weight. Knothe spent the next two hours cutting over twenty pounds, but the commission deemed it too dangerous for him to drop anymore weight. Shark Fights executive Wes Nolen states, “This main event title shot against Bobby Lashley is the perfect opportunity to make it up to Karl for the misunderstanding at Shark Fights 17.” Nolen went on to say, “I want to thank Bobby Lashley for all his patience. After three opponent changes, it would have been very easy for Bobby to call off the fight, but he’s a true fighter that accepted any and all opponents we put in front of him. He has never complained once and just continues to train hard.”

Shark Fights 21 will take place on Friday, November 11, 2011 at The Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas and will be broadcast via tape delay on FUEL TV beginning December 23, 2011.
